This week’s offers:
Daily drivers: Great watches for under 2,000 EUR
Rolex Datejust Ref. 1603
For a long time, these Rolex Datejust models could be picked up for far below 2,000 euros. However, we have recently seen an increase in price. It has become more difficult to find a nice reference 1601 (white gold bezel) or 1603 (engine turned bezel) for under 2,000 euros. This 1900 Euro Rolex Datejust 1603 dates from the 1960s and comes on a Jubilee bracelet.
It is in fair condition, so for a daily driver you buy yourself a great iconic watch and don’t have to pay much attention to the scratches and dings. It has a couple already. But a 50+ years old watch should have a bit of wear, otherwise it will end up as a safe queen. This Rolex Datejust 1603 is there to be worn. If you are able to handle a 36 mm watch and want to wear a Rolex that fits your budget, this one might be worth checking out. However, if you want a 1601 with white gold bezel or a 1603 in a slightly better condition, you only need to add a couple hundred extra euros to the price.
Enthusiast’s corner: Rare or exceptional timepieces
Urwerk 103.09
Urwerk has been creating watches with their satellite system for a couple of years now. The 103 model is favored by many enthusiasts out there. This 103.09 in red gold is one of the final editions of the 103 collection (2008). Urwerk was founded in 1997 by Baumgartner and Frei and in 2003, they came up with their Urwerk 103 watch. Six years of devotion and hard work resulted in this timepiece that put Urwerk on the horological map for many.
The 103.09 is based on the original 103, but with a bigger sapphire crystal to see the satellite system working in full effect. Although the current collection of Urwerk watches are just as amazing, or perhaps even a bit more amazing from a technical point of view, the 103 is the ‘Ur’ Urwerk.
Steal of the week: Great value for the money
Breitling Aerospace
This Breitling Aerospace is being offered for 799 euros. Yes, it is quartz. Yes, it is digital. Yes, it has gold rider tabs and yes it is made of titanium. Normally, all reasons not to move forward with this watch. However, this Breitling was developed for professional use by pilots, and although it might not suit today’s standards for a classy or fancy-looking timepiece, it is a hard core tool watch that is nearly unbreakable.
So if you need a low-cost tool watch from a good brand (think service/repair possibilities), this Breitling Aerospace could become your best friend on, for example, holidays. It even has a perpetual calendar, second time zone, and a chronograph, which is easy to operate via a push on the crown. This particular model was produced sometime between 1985 and 1995.
